TYPES OF MISDEMEANORS IN TEXAS:


Under Texas law, Misdemeanor offenses are classified as Class A, B, and C crimes. The most serious is a Class A Misdemeanor. 


  • Class A Misdemeanors: Punishable by up to 12 months in jail and a fine of up to $4,000.00. 


  • Class B Misdemeanors:  Punishable up to 180 days in jail and a fine of up to $2,000.00.

FELONY CHARGES

CLASSIFICATION OF FELONIES IN TEXAS: 


Under Texas law there is a range of classifications for felony offenses. The least serious type, State Jail Felony, and the most serious type, a Capital felony. 

 

  • State Jail Felony - punishable by 180 days to 2 years in state jail and up to a $10,000.00 fine. 


  • 3rd Degree Felony - punishable by 2-10 years in prison and up to a $10,000.00 fine. 


  • 2nd Degree Felony -punishable by 2-20 years in prison and up to a $10,000.00 fine.


  • 1st Degree Felony - punishable by 5-99 years or life in prison and up to a $10,000.00 fine. 


  • Capital Felony -  punishable by death or life in prison without the possibility of parole.
